San Pedro Street is one of the oldest streets in downtown Davao City. The bustling road is home to Davao’s famous landmarks that include San Pedro Cathedral, Urban Parks, the Legislative Building, and the old City Hall making it the busiest street in the metropolis – day and night. But amidst the hustle and bustle of the city’s busiest lane, there find one peaceful and quiet place I lived for a day and savored an intimate respite from a busy life that only comfortable homes can provide – Bahay Ni Tuding, a place I can now call a home away from home.
Bahay Ni Tuding Inn and Resto is situated in the heart of San Pedro Street. It is conveniently located in a small driveway between Lachmi Shopping Mall and Mercury Drug. The entrance is deceivingly small but the property is surprisingly lavished with vast parking ground and richly surrounded by fruit bearing trees adding fresh and serene outdoor feel of the whole place.

Like a real home, Bahay Ni Tuding exudes the ambience of ease and tranquility one would ever want with the comfort of being at home. It has 12 beautifully well-kept rooms perfect for those who want nothing less than cozy bed and tranquil space assuring a quite soothing sleep. All rooms come with cable television, intercom phones and hot and cold shower – too luxurious for their very affordable rates. For those who stay connected online, all rooms and lounge areas are WiFi ready and guests get free access 24/7.

Other than cozy rooms, Bahay Ni Tuding’s dining experience is a must-try. There are food choices to decide from – all at very affordable price. Food served is somewhat “lutong bahay” – that is exactly what I want perfect for the homely ambience of their in-house restaurant. I had the chance to savor their house culinary favorites – the Bulalo Soup. For dessert, Tchuron and Minatamis na Saging are must-try.

In the morning, the restaurant serves free continental breakfast for all registered guests. But for those who like more choices, Filipino and American breakfast can be requested at a reasonable price. In my part, I ordered “Paksiwng Moro-Moro” – a very typical food on every Filipino table.

The homey atmosphere of Bahay Ni Tuding is what I like most – from their interior design to their choice of furnishings. Interiors are designed with modern elegance but tastefully accentuated with antique Filipino style. I also find those wall décors and light fixtures interestingly fascinating. Some of it reminded me of a handful appealing houses that I visited in some of my travels.

Safety and security are the inn’s top priority. The whole property including the driveway and the parking space is secured with CCTV cameras guaranteeing guests maximum security and privacy. Their courteous staffs on the other hand are well trained to be of assistance 24/7.

For those new to Davao, staying at Bahay Ni Tuding offers not only comfort but convenience as well. It is nestled right in the heart of the city’s main business and commercial district where everything is accessible – churches, restaurants, shopping malls, banks, museum, parks and a lot more. For tourists, Bahay ni Tuding is walking distance to San Pedro Cathedral, Rizal Park, Museo Dabawenyo, the Legislative Building, and the old City Hall – the must visit landmarks in the city.

So whether you’re from Davao up for a fine staycation or a tourist/traveler from somewhere heading to the city looking for affordable yet comfortable place to live with a 3-star service environment, Bahay Ni Tuding Inn & Resto is perfect for you – A Home Away From Home!

NOW, why called Bahay Ni Tuding?
The area where the inn is situated was once part of the vast land owned by Gertrudiz “Tuding” Verano Ortiz in the early 1900’s. She came from a family who were early settlers of the Davao City. Before San Pedro Street became what it is today, a greater part of the area was once owned by her family. In her honor, the 4th generation of her offspring built Bahay Ni Tuding as great legacy of her contribution to her family and to Davao City.
