Cameras, iPad, Ipod, X-mini and smartphones are the basic gadgets I carry with me whenever I hit the road. But long before these gadgets become part of my exciting travels, there is one thing I can’t travel without even up to this day where everything becomes savvy, digital and compact. Call it obsolete but I can’t travel without my travel journals.
I keep a lot of travel journals. Every year I would make one and carry it with me wherever I go. Like a personal diary, there I wrote everything that comes to mind whenever I’m on the road – describing the sights I see and sounds I hear. There, I write poems when inspired and draw images that I found so interesting. Sometimes, I would make photos collages and neatly arrange them on it. I fond of collating brochures and collateral and most of them can be found in my journal. It’s like a mini-scrapbook for me. When I had the chance to talk to people, I would jot down notes onto it. My travel journals are like my travel best friends.

This hobby traces back when I was still in high school when autographs, slam books and diaries were very popular among peers. I was fond of writing down random thoughts on my diaries. It was a hobby that I brought to practice after high school, to college and up to this day where traveling becomes my lifestyle already.

All travel journals I keep are each dedicated for a year. I design it in a way that one becomes different from the other. During spare time, I would leaf its pages and recollect pieces of memories from previous travels written on those pages. It would carry me away back to the days I was there experiencing the joy and thrill of each travel. I feel so amused whenever I see photo collages, airfare tickets, calling cards, entrance tickets pasted on it. It’s like journeying back to old familiar places. Nostalgic!
THE TRAVEL TELLER’S OLD TRAVEL JOURNALS

In this digital age where notepads and sketchbooks are readily available on tablets and smartphones, I still prefer to do it the vintage way. I love keeping travel journals – it is too personal and something that technology can’t outdate. So why can’t I travel without my travel journal? Simply because it is an imperative part of how I chronicle my journeys. After all that is what this blog is all about – Chronicling Every Single Worthy Travel.

How about you? Do you keep travel journals?
