Barcelona is a fantastic honeymoon destination. This bustling city with its romantic restaurants and rich culture will make for a fantastic value for money honeymoon. After your wedding, relax in one of Travelodge’s Heathrow hotels before the flight to Barcelona from Terminal 5. Stopping off at the hotel will give you a good rest before your flight because you just know that the airport will be bustling and busy, which is not what you want if you’re not well rested.
From Terminal 5 you can fly directly to Barcelona through one of the fantastic operators such as British Airways or Iberia Airlines. The transfer from Barcelona to the city centre is only about half an hour, and a taxi is only about €25-30 depending on your destination which is well worth it after the flight. There are a multitude of fantastic hotels to stay at all over Barcelona, and location isn’t a problem if you’re staying in L’Eixample due to the absolutely fantastic Metro links – for example the Villa Emilia 4-star hotel is just a two minute walk from Rocafort Metro station, which goes right up to Las Ramblas and connects to many popular tourist locations.
For something really romantic, it’s worth looking into a private hot air balloon ride to experience the beautiful landscape of Catalunya. The day is an early start, but you’ll be whisked off in a minibus from the centre of Barcelona and taken to the ideal location for your flight depending on the weather. The hot air balloon will be unfolded and filled right in front of your eyes by the knowledgeable and friendly staff who will take you on a tranquil voyage over the wonderful Catalunya landscape over Osona or Vallès Oriental. It is recommended to book the flight for as close to the start of your honeymoon though as ballooning is directly affected by the weather. If it is not the right conditions, your flight may be postponed, so if you had booked it at the end, you wouldn’t be able to go!
Just under a couple of hours on the air conditioned train will take you to nearby Girona which is another beautiful city in itself – but the real gem here is the three Michelin starred El Celler de Can Roca. The restaurant is simply breathtaking with incredible architecture and impeccable staff who will greet you and prepare you for an astounding meal of almost twenty courses including some unbelievable amuse-bouches. It’s well worth the extra for the “Feast” menu for €160 a head and the extra wine samples. El Celler de Can Roca is rated the second best restaurant in the world in 2012 and it’s obvious why.
These are just some of the different things you could include on your Barcelona honeymoon. It goes without saying you simply must experience the popular tourist locations too – such as the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batilló and Las Ramblas. Don’t forget to head down to La Barceloneta for some fantastic seafood – the Can Ramonet restaurant is a perfect little seafood restaurant with plentiful paella and sangria hidden away in the back streets. Everything about Barcelona is romantic and is well worth a visit.
